Construction works on the Lekki deep seaport will commence by January 2017, Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has said.
The project has been on the table since 2011 with technicalities by the partners stalling its construction. Amaechi gave the timeline yesterday in Abuja at the 1st International Transportation Conference organized by the Transportation Growth Initiative (TGI) with the theme “Improving Infrastructure for Sustainable and Efficient Transportation.”
“The Lekki Seaport was approved in 2011 but the project didn’t commence because of a lot of disagreements but we are almost finishing resolving the issues,” he said.
The minister also said General Electric is expected to take over some assets of the Nigerian Railways Corporations in a deal worth over $2 billion.
“But we will likely round up with GE between January and March, 2017 because you must comply with the law. So between January and March, GE should take over the property of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to fix whatever is wrong and get the rolling stock” he said.
